This book is intended to guide students, property owners and developers, real estate practitioners, and legal, finance and accounting professionals in their understanding of the property tax system in Singapore, and to give them a good general insight into the property tax law and the valuation issues relating to the assessment of the annual values of the various types of properties. While the book is instructional, it is written in a simple style for easy reading and understanding by the layman and the newcomer to the subject of property tax and valuation. As most of the property tax disputes evolve around the issue of what is taxable, and the interpretation of the annual value concept, these controversial areas are closely examined in chapters 3 to 5, which are peppered with interesting actual case discussions. Readers are also introduced to the common rental valuation methods covered in chapters 6 to 8, and land valuation method in chapter 12.
